The Takaful Leaders and Agents Summit 2024 (TLAS 2024): A Platform to Inspire Leadership and Drive Growth in the Takaful Industry
Sepang, 2 December 2024 – The Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) successfully hosted the highly anticipated Takaful Leaders and Agents Summit 2024 (TLAS 2024), bringing together approximately 500 participants, including agency leaders, takaful agents, and representatives from member companies. With the theme “Dare to Lead”, the summit served as a vital platform to inspire and equip the agency workforce with the tools needed to excel in their personal and professional lives. The event was a celebration of leadership, innovation, and professionalism collaboration within the Takaful industry. As the industry celebrates its 40th year anniversary, this summit is just one of a series of exciting and meaningful events that have been organised to commemorate the celebration.
In the keynote address presented by MTA Chairman Encik Elmie Aman Najas, he emphasized on how the Takaful agents are playing huge role in contributing towards the industry. “Takaful’s industry currently contributes approximately 4.5% to Malaysia’s GDP in 2023. With a market share of Takaful reaching 32% of the overall insurance and Takaful sector in Malaysia, agents play a crucial role not only in driving sustainable Takaful business quality but also in raising awareness of financial protection, particularly through family Takaful, which accounts for 42% of new business premiums.”, said Encik Elmie Aman Najas. The event also featured an inspirational speech by YBhg. Dato’ Mohd Fadzli Yusof, a Takaful pioneer, who reflected on the transformative journey of the industry and encouraged participants to continue striving for growth and impact. Adding to the motivational atmosphere, Aliza Kim delivered an Islamic-themed motivational talk on the power of purpose, inspiring agents to find meaning in their work and use it as a driving force for success. Encik Amin Idris, a Motivator and TV Host, also graced the occasion with a divine speech, bringing a sense of thoughtfulness to the event.
A key highlight of TLAS 2024 was the appearance of Khairy Jamaluddin, whose engaging session captivated the audience with his charismatic and energetic presence. The motivational talk delivered by KJ had the audience mesmerised and would no doubt inspire the attendees to attain greater heights.
TLAS 2024 also served as a strategic platform to strengthen collaborations within the Takaful ecosystem through the signing of two significant Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs). The first, with Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS), aimed to enhance education and knowledge-sharing initiatives within the industry. The second, with Perfect 10, focuses on the development of e-educational modules and tools for agents to utilise to provide a higher level of service to their respective participants and thereby increasing the customer experience.
In addition to inspiring speeches and strategic collaborations, breakout sessions dedicated to Family Takaful and General Takaful offered participants tailored insights into navigating the evolving industry landscape. Esteemed speakers, including Encik Shahrul Azuan Mohamed, Chief Executive Officer of Etiqa General Takaful Berhad, Mr James Kuah, Head Alternative Channels, Corporate Business Division of Syarikat Takaful Am Malaysia Berhad, Encik Hassan Bin Muhamad, Agency Manager of the Year from AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd. and Ms Saw Lay Lay from LIMRA LOMA as Managing Director of Malaysia, enriched the discussions with their expertise and vision.
MTA Chief Executive Officer Encik Mohd Radzuan Mohamed highlight the role of Takaful agents as the backbone of the industry, noting their critical contribution to expanding Takaful’s reach and raising public awareness on the importance of obtaining Takaful protection. Being an agent is not just a beneficial career but a noble one, whereby agents are the ones that all will turn to in times of trouble. of its importance. “It is not just about the need for Takaful. Your efforts have also brought ease to many individuals, families, and businesses in Malaysia who have benefited from Takaful, providing relief and a sense of comfort in times of hardship, illness, or misfortune. This contribution is invaluable to Takaful participants, and I believe this social impact is what drives and motivates you—and all of us—to remain consistently committed to working in this industry.”, he said. Encik Mohd Radzuan Mohamed also emphasized about the importance of the event for the Takaful leaders and agents, which he quoted, “TLAS 2024 event is not merely intended to appreciate and celebrate industry players but also to continue inspiring and motivating you in your mission to spread and promote the importance of Takaful to the community”.
TLAS 2024 reaffirms the vital role of Takaful in Malaysia’s financial landscape, with over 120,000 agents playing significant roles in driving growth and outreach. The summit not only motivated and inspired its participants but also laid the groundwork for continued collaboration and innovation in the industry.
