Kamunting, Perak, 11 February 2023 – Stemming from the success of the past edition of Takaful Masuk Kampung (TMK) in Sungai Siput in 2022 which saw the participation of a total of 2,000 participants, the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) today organised another edition of TMK at Taman Tasik Kamunting, Perak with more exciting activities for the public. The edutainment carnival aimed to enhance awareness of Takaful and its comprehensive product offerings for all levels of society and to promote financial literacy, especially in Islamic Finance.
Karnival Rakyat Takaful Masuk Kampung at Kamunting was officiated by Kamunting State Assemblyman, YB Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Aziz. Also present was Chief Executive Officer of MTA Encik Mohd Radzuan Mohamed.
Supported by the state government and other government agencies, Karnival Rakyat Takaful Masuk Kampung presented a series of talks on Takaful and various topics related to financial literacy by industry experts from FWD Takaful Berhad, Hong Leong MSIG Takaful Berhad, Takaful Ikhlas Am Berhad, Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Berhad, AIA PUBLIC Takaful Berhad, Etiqa Takaful Berhad, Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad, Zurich Malaysia dan Great Eastern Takaful Berhad. Through this edutainment carnival, the community will be exposed to the importance of financial safety nets such as Takaful protection which is a very important instrument in financial management.
Encik Mohd Radzuan said, “One of the objectives of the Karnival Rakyat Takaful Masuk Kampung carnival is to help the local community to understand accurately, the need to have Takaful protection, as one of the financial instruments that can help when in an emergency and in need. It is hoped that initiatives such as this would help to narrow the protection gap among Malaysians.”
The carnival is an industry effort and is supported by MTA members through their contribution to the Association’s Fund4Cause. Providing critical financial resources for the development of the industry, Fund4Cause is the main enabler to bring the Takaful industry to a higher level.
Encik Mohd Radzuan Mohamed added, “This carnival is one of the key initiatives under Fund4Cause that emphasise the importance of developing an inclusive ecosystem by equipping each individual with financial literacy to create a financially literate society, especially in Islamic finance. TMK also aimed to foster closer ties between corporate bodies and organisations involved with the local community.”
According to YB Mohamad Fakhrudin, “Our hope is that everyone can take advantage and leverage on this educational carnival by the Malaysian Takaful Association. We welcome and look forward to more programmes such as this in the future that promote financial literacy for all levels of society, especially the lower-income groups, students and youth.”
The edutainment carnival included a sharing session from the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK) which provided guidance and education on the importance of financial planning. This session was intended to help individuals become more informed in personal finance, including aspects of financial risk management, practical financial skills and building an emergency fund.
The event also saw 50 children from B40 families in Kamunting receiving school aid through MTA’s Social Takaful Fund as part of their efforts to give back to the community. TMK Kamunting received about 2,000 participants throughout the day.
